Terms of Service

Last updated: March 27, 2025

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using FamilyBrief ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms apply to all users of www.family-brief.com.

2. Description of Service

FamilyBrief is an AI-powered service that reads school-related emails from your Gmail account, processes scanned documents you upload, and generates weekly briefing summaries for families with school-age children. The Service also surfaces calendar event suggestions that you can approve and add to Google Calendar.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering into a legally binding agreement to use FamilyBrief. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and all activity that occurs under it. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access. We are not liable for losses resulting from unauthorized use of your account.

5. Google Account Access

FamilyBrief requires access to your Google account to function. By connecting your Google account, you authorize us to access Gmail and Google Calendar on your behalf, strictly within the permissions you grant. We will never send emails or create calendar events without your explicit approval within the app. You can revoke access at any time via your Google account settings.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
  • Use the Service to process data belonging to others without their consent.

7. AI-Generated Content

Briefings and summaries are generated using AI and may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. FamilyBrief is a convenience tool — always verify important dates, deadlines, and school communications directly with the source. We are not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated briefing content.

8. Intellectual Property

The FamilyBrief name, logo, and service are owned by FamilyBrief. You retain ownership of all data you provide (emails, scanned documents, family information). You grant us a limited license to process that data solely to provide the Service to you.

9. Privacy

Your use of FamilyBrief is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. You may delete your account at any time via the settings page. Upon termination, we will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT BRIEFINGS WILL BE COMPLETE OR ACCURATE.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FAMILYBRIEF SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in California.
